Hannah is also co-convener of several Parliamentary Friendship Groups that are close to her heart.
Parliamentary Friendship Groups are informal groups established by Members of the Parliament of Western Australia to raise awareness of, or increase liaison with, a particular group, organisation or issue. Hannah is co-convener of the following Friendship Groups:
The Parliamentary Friends of Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
The primary objects and aims of the Parliamentary Friends of Motor Neurone Disease are:
- to facilitate communication between those living with MND, their advocates and carers, the MND community and Members of Parliament;
- to increase awareness and promote understanding of MND and the challenges facing those living with, and caring for those living with, MND;
- to support the advocacy work of the MND community, particularly in helping to support and enhance research opportunities, treatments, care options, and the building of accessible communities; and
- to advocate for improved quality of life outcomes for those living with MND and support the road to finding a cure.
The Parliamentary Friends of the Deaf, Deaf Blind and the Hard of Hearing
The objectives and aims of the Parliamentary Friends of the Deaf, Deaf Blind and the Hard of Hearing are:
- to facilitate communication between the deaf, the deaf blind and the hard of hearing community, organisations working in this area, and members of Parliament;
- to provide opportunities for members of Parliament to better learn about the needs and desires of the deaf, deaf blind and hard of hearing in our community;
- to increase awareness and promote understanding of the challenges faced by those who are deaf, deaf blind and hard of hearing.
The Parliamentary Friends of Refugees
The objectives of the Parliamentary Friends of Refugees are to:
- provide a forum for raising awareness and support of refugees as enshrined within Article 14(1) of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- encourage initiatives to improve the lives of refugees and work to promote and protect the rights of asylum seekers and refugees in Western Australia.
The Parliamentary Friends of Neurodiversity and Intellectual Disabilities
The primary objects and aims of the Parliamentary Friends of Neurodiversity and Intellectual Disabilities are:
- to facilitate communication between those living with neurodiversity and intellectual disabilities, their advocates, the disability community and Members of Parliament;
- to increase awareness and promote understanding of the challenges facing people living with neurodiversity and intellectual disabilities, their families and their carers;
- to support research into neurodiversity and intellectual disabilities; and
- to advocate for greater accessibility to services, inclusive employment options, inclusive communities, and opportunities to improve the quality of life for those living with neurodiversity and intellectual disabilities.
The Parliamentary Friends of Basketball
The primary objects and aims of the Parliamentary Friends of Basketball are to:
- strengthen relations, and facilitate communications, between basketball-related associations, the diverse communities who engage with basketball, and Members of Parliament;
- support opportunities to expand the reach of basketball across Western Australia and improve the capacities and capabilities of basketball clubs and associations throughout the State;
- promote the benefits of basketball on the mental, physical and social health of players, spectators, organisers, volunteers, and the community at large; and
- support greater accessibility to basketball, including amongst our First Nations, regional, migrant and disability communities, and foster inclusivity in the sport.
